How To Capitalise On A Positive Mindset

You don’t need to attend a Tony Robbins seminar to know that mindset is everything. It controls the way we see ourselves, the way we see our business and the way we react to everything around us. So why do we fall into the negativity trap? And how can we capitalise on ourselves when we are positively beaming?

While there is a vast ground of in-between, most of us can identify the days when we feel like hell (negative days) and the days when we feel on cloud nine (the positive days). I’m not going to sit here and tell you that you need to change every day into a positive, because I don’t believe that to be true.

We all have crappy days and you know what? That’s okay. The crappy days make me appreciate the good days even more, but I do try to limit myself to one crappy day at a time… otherwise it can spiral out of control.

I have found that by allowing myself to just accept having a crappy day, rather than resisting it, I avoid the negativity trap. If I know it’s something that’s going to pass, let myself have my little pitty party, then I can recover from it a lot faster without dragging myself and everyone else down.

But the real skill is being able to capitalise on your good days. Making sure those days drive yourself forward, whether it’s in your business or your life, it’s the positive days that will make the biggest changes.

So how do you capitalise on them?

Firstly let me define what a positive day is for me. On these days I feel incredibly confident, I feel like I could approach the biggest business requesting a collaboration and do so with zero fear of rejection. I feel like my daily to do list could be achieved before lunch. I feel like my readers and clients are happy and love working with me. I feel like my life is balanced, my son is happy, my husband is happy, our house is in order. I feel like my writing is on point and I feel like every idea I have for my business is a brilliant one.

Can you see why I need to make the most of these days??

As soon as I realise I’m having one of these amazing days I go right into action. In fact, I rely on having these days to get certain tasks done within by business. Here’s a few of the ways I capitalise on my positive mindset.

1 – Add to my to-do list.

I write a to do list everyday, if I happen to miss a day I feel so unorganised and I don’t feel like I’ve achieved anything. When I’m having a stellar day with a positive mindset, I add tasks to my list. I tend to power through my list on these days so I make sure I am getting the most out of it.

2 – I ignore my usual time chunking.

On a regular day I chunk my time for efficiency. For example, I might spend 1 hour writing, 1 hour on image and graphics and 1 hour on social media. This allows me to mix things up so I stay productive and it means I’m not jumping from task to task.

But… on one of my super positive days, I ignore this process. If I’m writing and the content is just flowing and everything is making sense to me, then I’ll keep going. I’m not going to cap myself at an hour – I will just keep writing until it feels like the right time to stop. This is the same for any task on these days.

3 – I tackle my most icky tasks.

We all have things we don’t like doing, but we know need to be done. On days with a positive mindset, I feel like I can do anything so I make sure I add these icky tasks to my list. For me, this usually involves website maintenance or any changes to code that I need to do – coding usually gives me a headache but on these days it’s like I actually speak the coding language.

4 – I do something kind for myself.

In an attempt to keep the positive mindset going, I make sure I do something lovely and positive for myself. This could be as simple as getting a fresh bunch of flowers and putting them in my house or even booking myself in for a manicure or massage. It doesn’t have to be extravagant – just something to ‘reward’ myself for a positive and productive day.

5 – I take notes… all day.

These are the days that I have some of my biggest and most exciting business ideas. My head is buzzing all day and I don’t want to forget anything. I keep a notepad and pen with me and make the most of Evernote on my phone to ensure I jot everything down. It could be post ideas, businesses I want to work with or new eBooks I want to write.

Part of being successful is being able to recognise your strengths and weaknesses and how to make them work for you. And that is exactly what I try to achieve on these positive mindset days – I try to make them work the best I can for myself and for my business.
